Well, here we are on Friday morning, just as pregnant as ever!
Let's see - I updated already about Christmas (Sunday). On Monday Scott's family came out for 2nd Christmas/Scott's birthday. The kids were spoiled with even more toys :-) These kids definitely are not suffering from boredom due to not having their toys and books around! Afterwards L's nanny came over to entertain the kids while Scott, L, and I met with the doula, Desiree. I think it was initially a challenge for L to have another person enter the situation. I was a bit worried that they would clash. But by the end I think everyone was comfortable and okay.
Tuesday was our moving day. T & L had an apartment reserved for us starting the 27th so we had to move to that one. It was surprising to see haw much stuff we had accumulated! But I guess that's what happens between 2 Christmas celebrations and Scott's trip home to grab all the stuff we forgot. We were out of the apartment by 11am but we couldn't check into the other until later in the afternoon. So we took the kids to Pier 39. I was a bit disappointed actually. For some reason I remembered it as a fun place with interesting shops... But it felt kind of overplayed and full of cheaply made, overpriced SF trinkets. We had an okay lunch and the kids got to see a juggler perform. But it served its purpose - to kill time. So around 2 we checked into the new place (it's right in the financial district), then walked down to the Ferry Terminal building. Scott had mentioned missing his juicer so L told him to buy one to use while we're here (they'll pay for it)and then they'll take it! So the poor guy carried that heavy juicer from Sur La Table back to the apartment! Tuesday was also Scott's birthday so I had been conspiring with our best friends all day. They surprised him by ringing the doorbell that evening. It was cool to give him some sort of a birthday celebration.
Wednesday - Scott and the kids headed back home to move our dog from my parents house over to the dog trainer. He's doing a 3 week board & train that we hope will make him into a more enjoyable dog! L and I headed to UCSF. We had a gret visit with the midwife. We were her last appointment so she wasn't rushing at all and was content to chat about whatever. I really can not explain how lucky we are to have her. She mentioned about how she and the peri keep checking in with each other to see if there has been any news. They're both sleeping with their cell phones right next to them so they can come in when we're ready. She's hoping I deliver today (Friday) because it's her day off and it would be easier than rescheduling patients. She didn't bother checking my cervix, my blood pressure was fine, but I gained 5 more pounds in the last 2 weeks. Blah. I'm not surprised though. My activity level has plummeted but I'm being spoiled by good foods! Speaking of which, Wednesday evening the nanny came over again and Scott and I were sent out on another date. We went to an Italian place up on Knob Hill. It was really nice and yummy, although the Eggplant Parmesean didn't get labor going as the old wives tale suggested.
Thursday - we did another trip down to the Ferry Building, had some lunch, bought some sourdough, and I got a new pair of boots. Scott mocked me a bit for conforming to the San Francisco dress code - jeans tucked into big furry boots. Whatever -I like them :-) When we got back the kids and I all had naps and then Scott sent me downstairs for a pedicure! I am getting so spoiled!
I don't know what the plan will be for today... There was talk to trying to find a playground for the kids within walking distance. We also talked about going to the SF Zoo.
On the baby front - not much going on. I have surges now and then, especially in the evening. Some are stronger than others but they always go away when I'm lying down. Joey is just content to stay put! Part of me wants to go all the way to 40 weeks just to prove the peri wrong - he thought I should have been in the city earlier because I'd be lucky to make it to 39 weeks. But at 39 weeks pregnant I've finally hit the "okay -I'm 'bout done" point. I'm ready to be back home. I'm ready to be able to sleep in whatever position I want. I'm ready to be able to move around and tie my own shoes! I'm also anxious about work... The company that owned our newspaper has suddenly sold us to another company. I got confirmation yesterday that I still have a job, but now the real fun starts.... The accounting! Apparently they are closing out the books as of next Friday and it's going to be a real mess if I'm not there. I don't have someone trained to do my job. People can so little parts, but this is different. Ugh. I guess stressing about it isn't going to help. Everybody just start sending labor vibes this way and maybe things will get going!
Oh, and my son is so funny! He thinks the baby will come out today (really he just wants this to get going so that the nanny will come back over to play). He keeps saying "Out baby Joseph! Your time is up!"
