Almost 33 weeks now!!!

Here's a picture that I took last week.  Just ignore the glamorous office bathroom background :-)

As someone said on Facebook - it really does look like I just swallowed a watermelon.  Love it!

So I got a call from my IM over the weekend.  Turns out that some of the "standard procedures" reviewed in our L&D tour really didn't sit well with her.  I didn't particularly like them either but I was more resigned to a "well, that's just the way it's done" attitude.  But my IM rocks and she's used to getting things done her way!
She met with some "high-up" at the hospital.  So I will not have to have the IV lock thing put in my arm when I check in.  And we will not have a team of 4-6 doctors, nurses, and residents all standing around watching as I deliver.  2 is more than enough.

L also suggested that I think about getting a doula to assist us.  She figured they could help out and keep things the way we want, especially if there is no midwife available when the time comes.  (Because remember, they basically only work bankers hours...  If you deliver in the evening or over the weekend then you're out of luck.)  I love the way that L understands that the delivery itself is an important thing for me and she's doing everything she can to keep it with the same spirit that we had originally intended.  Apparently she even tried to see if we could get UCSF staff to attend a home-birth, which they of course couldn't do.  She's also talked about having $ on hand to bribe a midwife into staying/coming in for the delivery!  I'm not sure she's joking either...  ;-)

My next appointment will be on 11/30.  I'll see the peri again and then see one of the other midwives.  I hope I like this one better!  Then after that I'll meet up with one (maybe 2) of the doulas that I've been researching.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

the weekly countdown is into single digits!

Less than 9 weeks to go!!!

Wow... sometimes it feels like it's taking forever and sometimes it's flying by.  I think things are going to speed up now that we're getting into the holidays.  We've got Thanksgiving, November month end close (a work thing), my daughter's 3rd birthday, her first dance recital, December month end close, Christmas, Scott's birthday, and New Years.  Not to mention a couple parties that we're attending in that time too.  That's a full schedule!

We had our 31 week checkup on Friday.  Everything is still perfect.  My blood pressure is "beautiful" and I've only gained 12 pounds.  My IM got some cute photos of Joseph.  We met the high-risk OB for the first time... Ugh.  She was a bore.  She seriously treated me like I'd never given birth before.  L and I exchanged some funny looks and had to try not to laugh.  After that we got our private tour of Labor & Delivery.  It was about how you'd expect I guess... definitely a hospital setting.  No denying that.  But the views are unbelievable!   I'll be sure to take some photos next time I'm there.  The room we saw was facing north so we could see from the pacific ocean, to the bridge, and over into the bay.  And it was a gorgeous day in the city.

Well, that's it for now.  Next appointment is in 3 weeks.
