Another trip to the city outta the way! Yesterday I had 3 appointments: midwife, non-stress test, & ultrasound.
The midwife, Sharon, was still amazing. I'm so glad we found her, even if it was late in the game. My blood pressure was still nice and low and I put on ZERO pounds since the last appointment! Woohoo! I was actually quite shocked by that. Early last week I took the kids to Cold Stone for a treat and ended up getting myself a quart to take home, which I devoured in a couple days. But after that I did guilt myself into laying off the sweets a bit.
After the midwife appointment L and I had an hour to kill until the next one. So we had a nice chat and some lunch. It's so amazing seeing her get so excited. She confessed that she's a huge ball of emotion right now and is crying (out of happiness) daily. I can only imagine how she'll react when she actually gets to hold her baby boy. Makes me want to cry thinking about it!
So next was the non-stress test. I've never had to do one of these before. But UCSF makes it a standard procedure for any IVF patients. They wanted me to do them weekly starting at 32 weeks but since I was being monitored so closely by the perinatologist there wasn't much point. Anyway, they just had me sit in a dim room with a fetal monitor on so they could observe his heart rate and any contractions. They also took a quick ultrasound to look at how much fluid was there. Everything was fine.
But while I was in there I heard the most outrageous thing ever! One of the nurses who works there was talking to the woman in the cubicle next to me. She was commenting on how childbirth was all wrong. If she were in charge of a redesign then the baby would only stay in the mother for about 3 months (before the woman had to stretch out her body) and then be delivered. Then the baby would stay in a lab to grow while the mom recuperated and took a vacation. Then she'd come back at 9 months and take home the baby. Oh My Goodness! I couldn't believe what I was hearing.... That's just so bizarre. There's so much wrong with that I don't even want to think about it. I did meet her when she came into my cubicle and she was definitely an odd character.
Anyway, next was my ultrasound. Our regular peri wasn't there today so another guy came in. But there was nothing new to hear. Everything looks good. It's just a waiting game at this point. My due date is 3 weeks from this Saturday, but I'm guessing it's going to be more like 2 weeks. L quizzed me on our plan if I go into labor early. What if I'm at home? (Scott packs us all into the van and we meet at the hospital where L's nanny will take over watching the kids.) What if I'm at work? (Either Scott comes to get me, I ask a friend/co-worker for a ride to the city, or I call a cab/driver service.)
Oh, and I'm still feeling good. Some of my Braxton's are getting a little stronger, but nothing that worries me. He's dropped down a little too but I haven't yet gotten to the point of waddling! T & L want to treat Scott and I to a nice date night this weekend so we picked out a place in Healdsburg that we want to try. Can't wait!
