Since starting my medications (on 3/20) there hasn’t been much to update. I’m happy to report that so far I have not turned into a hormonal mess, well except one day, but that was only because I had to stop the birth control pill so that I’d have a period. I’m still taking Lupron every night. That is used to shut down my body’s normal hormone production so the doctors can control my cycle. At the beginning of the month I started wearing little patches that supply my estrogen. I started with one patch and now I’m up to four and they get changed out after 3 days. The only thing with those is that I end up with gunk on my belly! The perimeter of each patch is a little sticky so I have dark squares of jean fuzz by the end of the first day.
Thursday I’ll have an ultrasound to check the thickness of my lining. Then we should find out the date of the transfer! It should be either Thursday or Friday of the following week! It’s getting so close!
I’m also really excited for Thursday because I’ll get to spend some with my IM. She’ll meet me for the appointment and we’ll hang out a bit after.
I should also be able to get answers to some of the questions that have been rattling around in my head. Like how soon would my IM want me to POAS (pee-on-a-stick)? When we were trying to get pregnant with our own babies I hated seeing BFN’s (big fat negatives) so I only took a pregnancy test when I was fairly certain or if my period was late. But lots of ladies like to POAS every day to see the line get darker and darker. It would drive me crazy watching for the slightest hint of a positive result. So I’d be inclined to wait until at least 9 or 10 days after transfer but I’ll do the daily thing earlier if she’d like that. Also, what sort of exercise will I be cleared to do and at what point after transfer? I’ve been working out 5-6 days a week and I really hope the doctor will let me keep up with at least some of it. I’m registered for a 5k at the end of May. I wonder if I can still do that? Oh, and how long will I be on bed rest after the transfer?
I’m finding it funny how different this pregnancy is going to be from my own. Things that I never worried about much are now so much more important. Like working out and eating fish. I ate fish with both of my pregnancies. But I’m already off fish just to limit the amount of mercury in my system. I also worked out with both kids but now I’m kind of scared to. It’s just that it’s such a huge responsibility to be pregnant in the first place but add to that the fact that you’re carrying around someone else’s precious baby, a baby that they have tried for years to have and exhausted numerous avenues until they came to the point that they had to ask another woman for help. It’s very humbling….
So exciting! So, bed rest? Guess that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so maybe this is too personal, or a TMI thing you'd rather not answer on here.... how does sex factor into this? I mean, in risky pregnancies you are told to abstain, so are you going to be having to not for the next 9 or 10 months now? Just to be on the safe side? Or just for the beginning time you are on be rest?
I totally get the being extra worried... I am for you too! lol But I think you're a GREAT person for this because of that extra worry and care! :)
