What a night...

So I heard back from both agencies that I contacted Tuesday night.  I'm not sure I can name the agencies yet, so I'll just call them "A" & "B".  Both ladies were very nice and interested in working with me.  They both said they do not require exclusivity but they do prefer it due to the time, energy, and cost that they put into the screening and matching process.
I started working on the complete application packet for agency B when I got an e-mail from agency A.  They actually had a couple that had asked about using a midwife.  So she contacted them and told them that she may be getting a surrogate that would prefer a birth center over a hospital delivery.  They liked the idea!
So last night I changed gears and powered through agency A's very lengthy application.  I was up SO late finishing it up.  So now I'm tired and wishing I still drank coffee.... but at least everything has been sent off.
I also had my first experience of telling someone what I'm doing and them not being supportive.  It hurt because it wasn't the response I had expected.  But oh well, it's my decision regardless of what that person thinks of it.  Maybe she'll come around later.

  1. Sorry you had a negative response to such a positive, selfless gift you would be giving someone...I am glad to hear you are standing behind what you are doing and letting the comment roll off your back...just like in our other life decisions, we stand behind what we do and can't let others sway our decisions or make us feel bad for the way we choose to live because at the end of the day, it's our life to live, not theirs!

  2. So awesome that you may have already found a match!!

And what a bummer to get a bad response from someone you care about :( Hopefully in time they'll come around, and if not, like you said - it's your decision to make. I think that the gift you're going to give someone far outweighs someone's negative attitude about the whole thing.

  3. This is wonderful!! I am excited for you and jealous all at the same time! I have a question... Will you be donating breastmilk after?

I just 'met' this girl who surrogate'd (is that a word?) for two couples and is now on her third. It looks like she made her blog private, but IF she opens it back.. here is the link. http://www.blessedwiththree.com/

  4. Marni - yep, if that's something that the parents want then I would be willing to pump for a while. Why waste liquid gold, right?!

  5. I would definately hold out on finding someone willing to do a birth center or midwife birth at least right now. I think there are plenty of "natural" minded mommy to be's who's bodies simply can't carry a baby. You may have to wait a little while but I think it would be worth it personally to not feel like you were 'settling' even if just a tiny bit. 'Cause once in the hospital all those 'scare tactics' you may have been able to weed out as such your IP's may believe what the drs are saying and think their baby in emminent dsnger and you'll end up going down a path you may regret and feel helplessly being forced into because they are calling the intervention shots to 'save' their baby.
